D is for...

D is for derby.
Last Saturday my family went to the roller derby! It was so much fun!!
If I was 20 years younger, I would so wanna try out! I'll try to explain the rules...
but if you have seen the movie, "Whip It" then you already know!
The girls with stars on their helmets are the 'JAMMERS'.
The ones with a strip on their helmets are called 'PIVOTS', the rest
are 'BLOCKERS'.
The round is called a JAM and the JAM last 2 minutes. The BLOCKERS skate around the track and the PIVOTS sets the pace. The JAMMERS start behind everyone else and must skate through the pack to score. Points  are counted starting with the second pass through the pack: 1 point for each opposing blocker passed.
The lead JAMMER can call off the JAM to keep the other team from scoring.
She places her hands on her hips to signal to the ref that she is stopping the JAM.
Only lateral hits are allowed...shoulder to shoulder/hip to hip....no elbows or hands,
that would be considered a penalty.
 Lots of wipe outs!
then something amazing happened.....
my great niece was born....
so D is for DIVA!
Introducing Abigail....Luke's little sister!
What a DOLL!

All this was brought to you today by the Alphabet-Thursday letter D!

Roller Derby looks like fun. I've never been to a "live" one, just seen it on TV.

Back in the late 50's or early 60's the roller derby used to be on television Saturday mornings. I used to watch all the time. I'd love to see it again.

Congratulations on the new grand niece.

I think it takes a special woman to be the derby!

I have never been to a derby, nor have I seen the movie. It does look like fun though, kind of crazy fun. It just so happens there is a derby league in our small city, but I don't think I will be trying out any time soon. Congrats on the birth of your niece!

Roller Derby is quite an interesting sport :) I don't think I can ever do it, especially since I can't skate...

And I just love how you ended that post :) Awww, Abigail. I have babies on my brain these days and seeing this cute little baby makes me want to have one soon :)
