Welcome, once again, to Alphabe-Thursday...hosted by the lovely and talented, Jenny!
I struggled a bit with the letter 'G' this week, I had no idea what to write about!
Then it hit me...gators! My Mother is from a small town in Mississippi. Every summer we went down to see my Grandmother. Grandma lived 2 miles from a swamp in a little shack...she had pecan trees in the front year, a porch swing that was the best part of Grandma's house. Feather beds with home made quilts on top...she had a chicken coop and during our summer visit, we usually played in the back yard, by the coop, with the water hose. One summer, I remember getting grabbed up by my hair, not quite sure why....my Mother had spotted a giant gator approaching the chicken coop that was very near where my brother and I were playing. We sat on her back porch and watched that big ole' boy stroll closer and closer....it was so exciting. I have been hooked ever since. I love gators...it is my favorite part of any zoo or aquarium that I visit in other cities. Now, I know it isn't normal. They aren't all cuddly and lovable, but I love them...here are a few shot s of some gators I have taken over the years..
This was taken in an aquarium in Baltimore Maryland.
This was taken at Sea World in San Antonio, Texas. This is my back yard...my love for these gators reflects in my yard art. Can you see my gator?

We went somewhere in Florida and my hubby wanted to go fishing at the state park. When we arrived there were many elderly people sitting in lawn chairs right by the water fishing and there were 3 alligators right there...in the water. When they would catch a fish they didn't want to keep, the people would throw them to the gators! I made my kids climb a tree and wait for their crazy daddy to finish fishing!
I think gators are really interesting too. But I don't want to get that close to one! We have gone to Florida countless times, and I've yet to see one in the wild. But I keep hoping. Kathy
Wow..I like those pictures of the gators, and your yard is beautiful.
When I visited Florida, when I was seven, my family teased me and told me the alligators were going to get me. They do always look so smiley, though. I can see how one can become fond of them.
Oh I am scared to death of gators. Luckily we don't have them here. have a nice dat
very cool gator pics :D
Oh my Carol! This doesn't surprise me...you are such a brave and adventurous gal!
Thanks for sharing these pictures of your G igantic scaly friends.
Julie. Your comment totally cracked me up!
A+
I've always said that my favorite place in Texas is Brazos Bend State Park. You would love it. Hiking trails and alligators! One year we were there when some eggs were hatching. That poor mother worked so hard bringing the babies down into the water from the nest. It was fascinating to watch from the other side of the waterway. The babies chirped like birds.
Gators just terrify me ...
Gators ARE cool! We love this swamp tour down around Baton Rouge, LA. I have pictures of Virgil and Stephen holding small gators.
Oh my gosh. I think seeing a gator up close and personal would have freaked me out LOL.
when you said lifted up by your hair I though you were going to say a gator had it! They are something arent they?
Great gator shots, last year we saw some lying on the golf course in Sea Pines Plantation Hilton Head. That same week some silly man put his hand in a lake to retrieve a golf ball & guess what. Yep! gator got his arm.

Great gator pictures. They are fascinating creatures aren't they. And what a fun, pretty backyard.
Awesome pics, Carol...but that first one is a little scary at the same time! How close were you to him??
Wow! I didn't think "Gator" was an alligator! ("Gator" means "streets" in Swedish so I really got the "wires" in my brain crossed this time! Silly me!)
I've only seen animals like alligators on TV or at the zoo.
Great post!
Sorry but I am running late with my comments!
Best wishes,
Anna
The first picture was taken up against glass...that's why I was able to get close. The second I used a zoom lens...they were in a 'pit' type habitat. I have seen some in my life up close...very close...but darn it, I didn't have a camera handy! LOL {Too busy running!}
Oh my ... I'll take the one in your backyard! Great G post :) .
